Bizet’s rarely heard masterpiece “The Pearl Fishers” in concert performance by this stellar ensemble of Canadian opera stars.
OperOttawa is a relatively new opera company based in Ottawa founded by former General Manager of Opera Lyra Ottawa Norman E. Brown. Now in its sixth year, OperOttawa produces at least one opera or oratorio performance per season in concert format or with moderate staging, utilizing the talents of young up-and-coming singers from Ottawa and semi-professional and professional singers from across Canada. Singers Norman E. Brown (baritone), Cristina Pisani (soprano), John Holland (bass), and Robert Martin (tenor) will perform the work in concert in the original French, with Claire Harris on piano.
To date OperOttawa has produced Handel’s opera “Acis and Galatea” in 2014, a sold out Opera Gala in 2015, and a highly successful Handel’s “Giulio Cesare” in 2016, which also toured to Toronto. OperOttawa produced Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” in the spring of 2017 to excellent reviews, as well as hosting the concert “A Tribute to the Music of Mozart” and produced Handel’s “Messiah” as a chamber concert in November 2017. In 2018 OperOttawa produced the concert “A Tribute to the Music of Schubert”, hosted Opera by Request’s touring production of “Don Giovanni”, produced a staged production of Menotti’s “The Medium” in October, and ended the year with a performance of Saint-Saens’ “Christmas Oratorio” and Bach’s “Cantata 142.”
